“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” -John 14:27
I woke up this morning with a sense of peace and gratitude. As is my practice, I took the time to pray and give thanks to the only one who can provide me with that peace—my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In John 14:27, we are explicitly instructed not to let our hearts be troubled. Yet, you might wonder how to do that when the world around us is in chaos. My finances are a mess, my husband has left me, and I am battling depression. How can one maintain a healthy outlook when it feels like everything is crumbling? With the government facing a possible shutdown today, there’s a real chance I could be without pay for an indefinite period.
How can I remain at peace when my daughter has just received a troubling diagnosis, my best friend is undergoing medical exams, and restlessness consumes my day?
Here’s how:
First, commit to praying in your sacred place. If you don’t have one, create it.
Second, immerse yourself in the Word of God contained in the Bible.
Third, reflect on today’s verse also, where God clearly states: “Here is my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved, with whom my soul is well pleased.” — Matthew 12:18.
Finally, surrender to His will, not your own.
It may sound straightforward, but that’s because it is. I challenge you to begin today. May God’s light, love, and peace shine upon you always.
