What is compassion you might ask? Is it being nice to someone? Is it putting myself in someone’s shoes before I judge them? Could it mean to be aware of others’ needs? But why must I be compassionate when they are not doing anything for ME?
To me, being compassionate is taking a deep breath and listening to another’s story with an open heart. It means not being judgmental, not attaching, and not reacting. Yes, there are times when I will let the ego take over as my pain body reacts to their situation. I am aware that at times I too can be frail. In essence, we are all flawed individuals who need constant reassurance that things will be okay.
